This exhibition listens in to the conversation between old Footscray and the new West as Footscray’s urban development kicks in at high speed. Secret Life of Footscrayexplores the inner worlds of Footscray people who live, work, eat and make art on the site of the old Barkly Hotel. This exhibition presented a unique body of work created at Barkly Arts Centre by people who are navigating the shifting landscape of a suburb undergoing great change. Barkly Arts Craft Circle created a series of thread-works that they posted as diminutive pieces of “craft-fiti” in and around the suburb they love. Secret Life of Footscray brought together textile and thread-work pieces, print works, original music, projected imagery and still photography in a quirky and moving exhibition.
